Weekly Round-Ups

This week has truly been blissful. It was the first week of summer vacation!!! I honestly had the best week. We had parties 4 nights in a row (dinner with friends from the city, father's day bash, a bonfire, and another dinner), and I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off the summer. There were two special holidays thrown into the mix (Father's Day & National Wear Your Lilly Day), and I finally got the opportunity to do nothing. We got down to the beach a few days ago, and life is good. We took an amazing bike ride last night, went to the beach in the morning, and had a backyard BBQ. All very summery things this week.

I also picked up this adorable pair of buttercup scallop shorts from Lilly!

Some notable things this week:

1. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. J.K. Rowling just keeps launching new information out onto the web every week it seems like! I could not hold in my excitement of hearing the news this morning! Yes, I've already subscribed to the ticketing email list... a short trip to London anyone?

2. Gay Marriage Legalized. Another HUGE thing that happened this week! It's kind of amazing that we are all part of a momentous moment in history.

3. Jesse Skort Romper. My sister and I currently have this romper in our shopping cart-it would be the perfect thing to wear for our 5th of July party! I cannot get over how adorable and fun it is.

4. National Wear Your Lilly Day. After the fact, I loved scrolling through tumblr to see everyone's favorite Lilly pieces! (It also lent itself to some fabulous inspiration.)

What did you find interesting this week?!

Summer In Lilly

I picked up the most adorable pair of scallop shorts the other day in Lilly! They come in so many fun colors, but I had to go with the Bay Blue Coasting pattern. These shorts are literally the most comfortable things ever. The material is thick enough that they're not skimpy, but it's also light which is great for summer. The shorts are so versatile and can be dressed up or down. It was pretty nice out yesterday, so I decided to go all Lilly and scallops! (My kind of day.)

I have been non-stop obsessed with my scallop tote from Marley Lilly. It is so simple, chic and classic. I can't stop using this bag! I bring it everywhere with me- I highly recommend to anyone looking for an affordable leather tote.

Of course, my favorite flowers have to be in the shots- hydrangeas!

Marley Lilly has been having really great sales recently! The tote bag, this monogramed bikini, and the monogramed glasses pictured above have all made their way into my shopping cart.

I cannot live without my self-charging phone case from Kate Spade. It's actually pretty funny how much of a conversation starter this case is!

5 Ways To Make Yourself Feel Better

Something that I struggle with daily, is not letting my perfectionism get to my head. It can really prevent me from getting things accomplished on my to-do list, or even just sticking to a schedule/routine. When I'm in one of my funks, there are 5 simple things I can do to help me feel better:

1. Paint your nails. There's nothing better than giving yourself a fresh manicure. I love using Essie's apricot cuticle oil to pamper myself. While my nails are drying, I'll watch Netflix!

2. Read a chick-lit. Reading books always makes me feel better, but when I'm in a funk I need to read something lighthearted. You don't really have to think about it, you can just enjoy the read! Some of my favorite chick-lits include: L.A. Candy, Something Borrowed, and White Girl Problems (absolutely hilarious).

3. Ice Cream! Ice cream without a doubt, always cheers me up. Cake batter is a guilty pleasure of mine.

4. How I Met Your Mother. This show is basically one of those feel good, always funny shows. There's really no sad parts in the series, (ok maybe sometimes...) and it never fails to make me actually laugh out loud.

5. Write out a to-do list. This may not be for everyone, but I feel extra accomplished when I'm able to successfully plan out my day... and stick to that plan! Writing a list of all the tiny tasks I need to get done allows me to divide my day up into small chunks- that way, I don't feel overwhelmed.

Those are my tips for making yourself feel better!

Anything in particular that you guys do?

Fourth of July Outfits

The 4th of July is quickly approaching! I have to say, the 4th (next to halloween) is my favorite holiday! Everyone is happy it's summer, the nights are cool, and backyard barbecues commence. Planning our outfits is a big to-do at my house every year. Emily and I always need to have the perfect red, white and blue outfit! Another cool tradition of ours? We always have 2 parties: a 4th party with our relatives, and a 5th of July party with close friends. I love it because I can wear two patriotic outfits in a row with all three of my favorite colors! At first, I planned on taking photos of all of these outfits, but due to time constraints, I'm putting together a small (or big?) collage. There's six different possible outfits in here! But, you can really wear all the pieces together. Enjoy my overwhelming collection of festive pieces.

At the Beach:
Eyelet tote
Backyard Party:
Monogrammed wayfarers
Fireworks Show:
Out to Dinner:
Lunch Date:
Eyelet Tote
By the Pool:
Eyelet Dress (similar to the sold out one)

What are you going to wear for the 4th?!

P.S. I think I'm going to cave and order the most perfect romper for our July 5th party! It's so. cute.

Easy Summer Snack Recipes

I'm back today sharing some of my favorite summertime snack/appetizer recipes! There's nothing I love more than food in the warmer months- everything is cold, refreshing, and tasty. All the recipes I'm sharing today are my personal favorites, tried and tested. You can find most of these recipes online yourself, but I'm just sharing what I normally do to make the dishes.

Bruschetta// I love going to restaurants and ordering a savory plate of bruschetta as an appetizer, but it can also taste pretty darn good if you make it yourself!

1. Drizzle olive oil over sliced pieces of a baguette
2. Dice up cherry tomatoes, garlic, and basil leaves in a small bowl & mix with olive oil
3. Heat the baguette slices on a grill/flat pan until it's toasted to your liking
4. Put the tomato/garlic/basil mixture onto the baguette slices
5. Drizzle balsamic vinagrette over the slices, add salt & pepper

My secret ingredient: I love melting mozzerella onto the baguette slices in the oven. It tastes unreal!

Pasta Salad// In my opinion, the epitome of summer and the dish of backyard BBQ's. It's also basically the simplest recipe in the world.

1. Cook tri-color rotini pasta
2. Add vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower)
3. Mix everything together with your favorite italian dressing!

My secret ingredient: A tiny bit of parmesean cheese will enhance all the flavors.

Homemade Chipwich// Ah, this snack brings back the nostalgia of summer camp. We would all fight to get the last chipwich at the camp store! Now, you don't need to fight for one, you can just make it yourself.

1. Bake chocolate chip cookies
2. Stick a scoop of vanilla ice cream (or whatever flavor you prefer) in between two cookies and you're done.

My secret ingredient: Another alternative for a quick snack is doing the same thing, but with Oreos. You guys, it's amazing. Just separate a cookie and put ice cream in between!

Berry Smoothie// I'm normally not a smoothie drinker- they're too heavy and I can never finish a full one. But this berry smoothie is delicious. Recently, I've been finding myself starting to become a berry kind of girl. Summer is the perfect time for tangy black berries, sweet raspberries, and savory blueberries!

1. Put in blender:
2 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup blueberries
1/2 blackberries
1/2 cup raspberries
2 tablespoons of flax seed (I normally skip this step, but I saw it in the recipe on Right At Home's website).

My secret ingredient: Ice. Lots of ice. Perfect for those hot days! (Also, you can make this smoothie into frozen popsicles!)

What are your favorite summer snacks?

Current Skincare Routine

No matter day or night, I never go a day without going through my skincare routine. Yes I have short cuts on those days where I just can't be bothered, but at least one product is going onto my face every day. I've found throughout the years that truly taking good care of your skin works wonders. (it really does!) Finding what works for you, and becoming educated about your skin will only help you in the long run. It doesn't have to be overly complicated with layers of different products! It just needs to cater to what your skin needs.

Step 1: Cleansing. First, I'll remove the bulk of my makeup with the Simple miscellar cleaning water. It's literally a god send! It's not greasy at all, and removes even the toughest eye makeup. After I remove it with a cotton round, I'll go in with a cleanser. For me, I like a gentle and frothy cleanser. The first aid beauty gentle cleanser is amazing! It's very natural, doesn't contain harsh chemicals, and thoroughly gets all the gunk off your face. I'll use this in the morning before I put on toner and moisturizer, and in the shower at night to get off the rest of my makeup.

Step 2: Tone. Toner can make all the difference. One of my guilty pleasure is toner in a mist form-especially if it smells nice! I use the Fresh rose floral toner every single day no matter what. It's refreshing, cooling, and de-stressing. Sometimes I'll even spray it on my pillows before I go to sleep, because rose is a less harsh version of lavender. I also really like this tea tree oil facial mist from Lush.

Step 3: Moisturize. I cannot say this enough, moisturizing is the most important part of taking care of your skin! It prevents wrinkles down the road, keeps your skin smooth, and surprisingly prevents oil/shine. Don't be afraid if you have oily skin-find a good light moisturizer with SPF. My skin used to be oily but has become more normal after years of using a solid moisturizer. My favorites include the Aveeno daily nourishing, First Aid Beauty ultra repair cream, Simple 24 hr day/night cream, and Chanel le jour (a serum).

Step 4: Eye cream. I'm not particularly picky about eye cream-my only request is that it be thick. I have a really dry under eye area so whatever eye cream I'm using at the moment, has to be able to keep that situation at bay! I'm currently using and loving the Origins ginseng eye cream, but an old favorite is the Kiehl's avocado eye cream. (It's very heavy and perfect for the winter months!)

Step 5: Lips! I think taking care of your lips is an integral part of your skincare routine. I can't stand when my lips are chapped. I love thick lip balms (we all know the squeezy tubes are the best!!) and the one I've been using lately gets the job done. Smith's rosebud salve is amazing! It used to be in a tin form, but they switched it over to a tube and I'm so glad-much easier to handle.

Besides from my daily routine, I have a few other essential skincare products!

Yes To Cucumber Makeup Remover Wipes
The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Mask

What's your current skincare routine?

Wanderlust

I love to travel. But, during the school year it's quite hard for my family to find a time to book a trip that works with everyone's schedule. I have something going on nearly every day after school and on weekends, and missing a day of school is not worth the work you have to make up. So, if we do go on any sort of vacation, it's normally during the summer (or a spring break). We haven't traveled really at all this year as a family! My dad and I went to Washington DC a few months ago for a short visit, and I also went to DC on a class trip a month before. But other than that, my year has been sans-travel. I really want to do some great trips this summer. I've been wanting to visit so many places- not huge, 10 day vacations across Europe though. I'm thinking I want to spend my summer doing short 3-4 day trips in small cities, towns, or visiting places I've never been before. That seems to work best with everyone's schedule. Here's the places we're planning to go:

Winvian Farms// This trip is the one I'm most excited for! My mom and I decided to book this trip to surprise my dad for father's day (on Sunday). The trip is set for the end of July, and we're having such a hard time deciding which adorable cottage to stay in. Library, or Charter Oak? I've never been to Connecticut before, and the town of Litchfield seems charming. Also, there's so many activities to do in the summertime on the farm!

Niagara Falls// This trip is coming up rather quickly. We're trying to go at the end of June. Niagara Falls has been on our family vacation list for so long. Finally, we're going to go! I think we are staying on the Canada side, not the New York side. Since this trip is very close, I'll be doing a separate post on it.

Charleston, SC// I think Charleston has got to be one of my all time favorite cities! I love southern towns, they are absolutely beautiful in the summer. The buildings are charming, restaurants are delicious, and the activities you can do are endless. The last time we went was a couple of years ago, and it was one of my favorite trips we've ever done together as a family. Haven't decided on dates for the trip, but I'm hoping to fit in a couple of days. Maybe I'll even tour USC while I'm there!

Boston/Nantucket, MA// I've been to Nantucket before and would love to go back. It reminds me of Martha's Vineyard a little bit. However, one place I've not been is Boston. It's a city I've been dying to go to for the longest time! Everyone I know loves Boston, and I really want to go.

Washington, DC// I know for sure one place we will be visiting again is DC. It's my favorite city in the whole wide world. I could spend the rest of my life in DC. (and hopefully I will for college!) Every time we go (which is quite often), I never get sick of shopping down M Street in Georgetown, checking out the Smithsonians, or getting a quick bite to eat at Shake Shack. The hotel we always stay at? The Ritz Carlton Georgetown- an absolutely beautiful location & fabulous staff. Also, Georgetown is home to my absolute favorite Vineyard Vines location. *heart eyes*

Lastly...

Bay Head, NJ// This is where I'll be spending the bulk of my summer! For the past few years, we haven't traveled during the summer because we've had our own little paradise- our beach house! Words cannot describe the feeling I get when school is over, and we finally get to go down to the beach for the summer. We live there the entire summer break, and I love it there. Our town is so quaint, and there's plenty of things to do there. My favorite past time is sitting out on our front porch with Max in the morning.

Hopefully, all of these trips pull through! I know at least two of them will, but fingers crossed at the others. Our family is not the best at planning vacations...

Where do you want to travel this summer?

Splash Into Summer!

Lilly Pulitzer's summer collection is doing everything right, and I mean everything. Adorable scallops, new prints, and fantastic shifts lead the way to new outfits. I basically want everything on the website! For my end of year gift, I always get something that I really want, but wouldn't buy for myself. This year, I'm asking to order a few things from the Lilly summer collection! Absolutely loving the hot pink coral pattern! Here are my top picks:

Finals Study Tips

The number one thing on my mind right now? Getting an A on those finals! (Or getting at least a 41% to actually keep my A... roberhub.com is amazing guys) High school finals can be stressful, if you don't stay organized and on top of things. Throughout my years of studying for midterms/finals, I think I've finally perfected my study routine. I guess I'll dive right into it:

Organization:

Teachers will usually give you a list of topics that will be on the final. If they don't, then just assume every chapter/unit you covered will be on the test! 2 weeks before the final, lay out all of your binders, notebooks, and worksheets. Categorize them according to subject and separate everything into the following categories: Tests, notes, worksheets.

Tests- Use these as practice for the finals! Retake your old tests one by one, and make sure you fully understand the problems you got wrong. Go back over a unit whose test you didn't do so hot on. That way, you'll be sure to recognize the types of things you'll be tested on. More often than not, teachers will base the finals off of all the past tests given in that class.

Notes- These are equally important to your old tests! Read back through your notes, and HIGHLIGHT the most important and relevant information. Don't highlight small details that are unlikely to show up on the test. Stick to the main points!! (I cannot stress this enough. No human can possibly remember every single detail they learned in a class. By remembering the basics, you have a better understanding of the material and therefore are more likely to remember it.)

Worksheets- This mainly applies to math and science courses, but could possibly apply to something else. Look back through old worksheets and see if you remember how to do the problems. No need to do the whole worksheet, maybe one or two problems is best.

Once all of your stuff is organized, make a study guide for each subject. Use mainly your notes to write down the overarching themes of each unit. I find it really helpful to make those study guides because actually writing down the information helps it to stick better in my brain. Add in a couple of example problems from the worksheets, then take the old test that goes with that specific unit!

Most teachers will give you a review packet, with practice problems, and an overview of the year. Do not touch those packets until the days leading up to the exam. A few days before, complete the review packet as sort of a "final test" to see if you truly know the material. Also, if there's anything on the review packet you forgot to study, you can review that at this time too!

Time Management:

It can also be very hard to prioritize and manage your time wisely. I created a small little timeline of events that should take place before the final. I follow this schedule typically every year, unless I have crazy amounts of work! (sort of like I do right now...)

2 weeks before the test- organize papers, binders, and notebooks into categories

2 weekends before the test- read through notes, highlight important material

1 week before the test- start using the worksheets to do actual problems and practice

The weekend before- make study guides, and study the stuff you've been practicing. Memorize formulas, vocab words, or theorums. Anything, really.

A Few days before- complete review packet as a mock exam. Finish last minute studying, and relax!

The night before- spend 20 minutes skimming over your study guide, then put it away. You know this material, and you got this! Get a good night's sleep, of at least 9 hours.

Day of- eat a healthy breakfast, check to make sure you have all testing essentials, get to school on time, and take the test!

My Tips:
  • Notecards are really helpful! Like I said before, getting it down on paper makes it stick like glue in your brain.
  • Stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water is key. Last summer, the week after finals I had a really scary moment. My body was so severely dehydrated that it shut down and I basically had a seizure. All because I wasn't drinking enough water! Please, please, please carry with you to the library, or keep in your room a refillable water bottle. Keep drinking, even if you're not thirsty- you'll thank me later!
  • Get distractions out of the way. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb, so that no one can interrupt you when you're in the zone. One text leads to a tweet, which leads to an article, which leads to a youtube video, and eventually you're stalking your best friend's cousin on Instagram. (Just being real here guys.) Also (and this might be just a personal thing), I cannot listen to music when studying. I start to memorize the lyrics, not the formulas! If you need to, ask a parent or friend to guard your electronics and hold them "hostage" so that you absolutely cannot check them & can actually get work done. (This really works!!)
  • Be disciplined. Stick to the schedule you created, and don't procrastinate. It doesn't do anything for you, and will only freak you out further. The only thing worse than being nervous for a test? Being nervous AND underprepared.
  • That being said, take time to relax and de-stress. Give yourself a mani-pedi. Take an ice cream break with friends. Read for 30 minutes in between large chunks of studying. Do whatever it takes to divvy up the time in a way that is less stressful for you! I love painting my nails, and then letting them dry while flipping through flash cards. It's the ultimate multi-task!

Phew! I think those are all the tips and tricks I have up my sleeve... For now. Sheesh, I can't even picture what college finals will be like for me.

Hopefully these tips were helpful, and gave you an idea of where to begin!

Do you have any study tips?

Weekly Round-Up's

This week was absolutely killer. Since this is technically the last week of classes (next week is 3 days of finals), teachers are cramming in tests, projects, and extra homework assignments! I feel like I start every blog post with a complaint about school.... Oops. That's junior year for ya!

In the midst of all the work, I did get a free strawberry frosted donut (aka the best kind) on Thursday. It's the little things.

I also treated myself to a manicure so I can have bright nails when I'm inside studying this whole weekend for finals. :/ Essie's Vibrant Vibes on my nails!

Onto my weekly roundup:
1. Tassel Top. Much cheaper version of a one I saw on Tuckernuck. It also, in my opinion, comes in much cuter patterns!

2. Leather scallop tote.
Just ordered this from Marley Lilly! I got brown leather, with a white block monogram. I simply cannot wait until it gets here!! I have a feeling this is going to be the bag I use all summer long.

3. Bathing suit. Keeping with the trend of monograms, this bathing suit was also quickly added to the shopping cart. I really wanted a simple white monogrammed bikini for the summer so I knew this one would be perfect. It's also from Marley Lilly! (They are killing it right now with all of their selections for the summer. Although, this monogrammed bible cover is kind of weird.

4. Transgender article. A very interesting viewpoint, to say the least. At first I was unsure of how I felt towards the opinions of the writer, but I found myself agreeing with many of the points they made! Extremely empowering.

5. An American Hogwarts! Omg, guys. I don't know if any of you saw J.K Rowling's tweets, but this article sums it up. There IS a possibility- new series anyone?

6. Lauren Conrad Pop Innovator. A pretty long youtube video to sit through, but totally worth it. It's no secret my celebrity crush has always been Lauren Conrad. This documentary on her rise to success, and the process of building her empire is so interesting! I will say this video left me entertained for hours clicking on the "reccomended tab" on youtube. There were endless amounts of interviews with Lauren that I couldn't stop watching!!

7. Fashion Boulevard. Love this blog! Iliana is ironically the style editor for a laurenconrad.com so you can see why I have an inclination towards her site.

8. Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual. Picked this book up a long time ago, and only just now am I sitting down to read it! I'm only a few chapters in and it's already so awesome & informative.

See any interesting things this week?

My Current Wishlist

I haven't updated in about a week-things have been so crazy! I've been browsing around online, and found some pretty amazing things. If only I had the money to order every single item right now! Ah well, it can't hurt to look, can it?

1. Michaelina scallop skort. This is possibly the most adorable skort in the world. The navy with white scallop trim makes for a perfect everyday summer skort. I may just have to cave and order this!

2. Tailored linen romper. I love the crisp white and clean cut of this romper! It's very sophisticated, chic, and simple. You may notice a trend in most of the things I love-they can be dressed up or down! Versatility is key to building a sustainable closet. That way, you can create more outfits or different looks.

3. Red striped shirt. (Blue pictured). This actually has been on my list awhile. I think striped shirts have got to be one of my top 5 favorite things to wear... ever! You can wear them with just about anything. Denim shorts, jeans, skirts... (they also make for great layering pieces). One color I don't have is red, and this LL Bean one is just what I've been looking for. Nautical, classic, and great for summer!

4. Plaid shirtdress. Ok, this is definitely a splurge, but in my opinion totally worth it! I saw this dress a few weeks ago online and loved it. After seeing Carly feature it in a blog post, I knew I had to have it! It looked fabulous on her. This dress would be so fun and spirited for the fourth of July.

5. Factory plaid popover. This shirt definitely has the three F's: flirty, fun, and fabulous.

6. I'm obsessed with these Jcrew factory fluted skirts! They come in so many fun colors like this bright pink one. I've never seen a skirt in this color before-it's so different from anything I would normally wear, but I kind of love it.

7. Linen shirt dress. I'm all about that linen. It keeps you cool and feels very breezy on those excruciatingly hot days! The pinstripes on this dress are so classic.

8.  Bucket Bag. This bag has been on my wish list for so. long. Don't know if I'm going to buy it or not! (Might just go with the Jcrew Factory one as seen in a recent post.)

What's been on your wish list lately?

May Favorites!

I'm happy to be wrapping up things this month and moving on into June! I have some great things planned this month. The things I've loved:

Gummy bears. For as long as I can remember, I've eaten gummy bears. There's nothing better than opening up a fresh bag of tiny Haribo bears! They're great to snack on (not the healthiest but I digress), quickly fulfill your sugar craving, and can be thrown into any purse. My favorite flavors? Cherry, strawberry, and pineapple (the red, green and clear ones).

White jeans. I've been wearing white jeans so much this month! They are my springtime go-to. I swear my favorite pair is worn at least 3 times a week. They can be super casual worn with an oxford,  or dressed up with a tunic and wedges. Love.

Bow rings. I love my Kate Spade bow rings. I've grown my collection to two of the bow rings and 1 set of the bow earrings. I like how the silver and rose gold look together, so I normally wear one on each finger! I wear them nearly every single day.

Scallop dress. So happy I snagged this dress back in March before it completely sold out! It's absolutely perfect. I wear it all the time and get so much use out of it. Definitely one of my best purchases for the spring/summer season! (it's actually back in stock for 40% off final sale!!) If you want something like it, JCrew Factory has some great options. (this cami dress, this bright number, and this fit and flare.)

Friends. This whole month, Friends was my favorite TV show. Normally in the morning, 1 Friends episode gets me through my whole makeup routine (about 20 minutes). I'll put it on, sit down at my vanity, and enjoy getting ready. It's a great distraction from school work (ahem, sometimes too great of a distraction). I'm almost done with the entire show! (Rachel and Ross are currently taking care of their new baby.)

What things have you been loving this month?
